no offense but why can’t more people be gentle to one another

here’s a new ideological movement for you: internet iconoclasm

  • stop putting random internet people on pedestals because they’re funny or quirky or for any reason at all actually
  • self examine and self criticize: are you putting too much stock in parasocial internet relationships? are you being mindful of the humanity of others?
  • never lay down your pride to defend someone you’ve never even talked to
  • remember that the person and the persona can be very different
  • if an online celebrity or influencer deserves to be torn down, then let them be torn down.

nobody wants to admit it but lgbt representation in almost all media is in a really bad place right now

everybody wants to pretend we’re in a renaissance when in reality we’re in a dark age, where bury your gays, stereotyping, baiting, and “implying” is at an all time high in popular media. The truth is that people have realized because of the abyssmally low bar that LGBT people have for representation in media, most of us will lap up any scraps they give us. LGBT representation isn’t a statement any more, it’s a clever ploy to get the support of a community while giving them so little that they don’t alienate bigots in the process, and the bar needs to be set higher or else we’ll only see this cycle continue

TIL that in 1985, police engaged in a standoff with the black liberation group ‘MOVE’ at their home in Philadelphia. A massive firefight ensued in which the police used choppers to drop two C4 bombs on the roof. The fire destroyed 65 houses and 11 people died.

via reddit.com

Half of the people who died in the bombing were children. The youngest of whom was only seven. Two hundred and fifty people were left homeless. When the bomb was dropped, the firefighters were ordered to stand back and not do anything to help. Police shot people as they tried to escape. And while the city apologized and called the bombing “unconscionable” the only person who was ever criminally charged in the affair was Ramona Africa, the sole adult survivor of the bombing.

Seriously, every single American should be required to learn about the MOVE bombing.

While this is going around, probably worth adding that Ramona Africa is currently suffering from cancer and asking for help with medical fees, gofundme here: https://www.gofundme.com/helpsaveramonaafrica
